Chapter 5

Protection

They had been married for four years. They had eventually moved to a larger house with rooms for servants but they were still away from Denethor’s prying eyes. Boromir maintained his quarters on the main level but the servants knew he did not stay there but they never told. Their servants were loyal to them and they knew they could be trusted to never let anyone know that the house belonged not just to Lady Lillianna but Lord Boromir as well.

They had been through many hard times since the day they got married. There were days were she prayed he would return to her. It seemed that every time they turned around orcs were attacking some part of Gondor. The last two years had been horrible. Osgiliath was becoming the primary target it seemed. He had moved her out of their quarters in the city permanently as the dangers grew. She missed the brief respite from the secrecy they had to continue in Minas Tirith but mostly she was worried about the fate of the country and her husband. Gondor's forces were stretched so thin that evil was getting the advantage a lot of the time. She grew more and more concerned about both Boromir and Faramir. Denethor was more concerned with keeping Gondor safe than he was concerned about keeping his own sons safe. He would send them into battle with low resources and little hope. She knew that he would eventually send them to their death.

She wanted to beg Boromir to just leave it all behind but she knew he would not so she never talked of it with him. He had already lost many of his men and his friends and he seemed more determined than ever to put an end to the constant invasions. She saw his worries increase to the point where sometimes even she could not ease his troubles. They never fought before the last year. They had been fighting more and more about his father. She hated him and she became unable to keep her opinion to herself. She had decided early in their marriage that she was glad that he did not know about their marriage. If he had known, she would have to see him on a regular basis and be pleasant. She was not that good at faking her feelings.

Only Faramir knew how worried that she had become and how much she wanted Boromir to leave this life behind. She wanted to go back to Rohan and she wanted both of them to go with her. She knew that Boromir would never leave Gondor though so she never even brought up her desire with him.

Boromir had been gone for a week when he finally returned to her this time. While they were cuddling in bed, she noticed that he had cuts and bruises on his face and she insisted on taking care of them. While he was lying on the bed and she was tending to his cuts, he was stroking her skin with a seductive look in his eyes.

“Stop.” She smiled “I am trying to do something here.”

“As am I.” He said as his hand slid to her breast. “I have been gone a long time and I missed my wife.”

“I missed you to my sweet but this will only take me a minute. Besides a few more minutes will not kill you.” She laughed.

As soon as she finished he threw her on her back and began kissing her all over. She laughed when he rubbed his bearded face across her stomach.

“Are you laughing at me my naughty temptress?” He said climbing on top of her holding her hands pinned to the bed above her head.

“If I am, what will you do about it?”

“I am going to teach you a little respect.”

He smiled before he grabbed her lip between his teeth.

Wrapping her legs around him, she said, “Maybe I should teach you some respect.” She said as she squeezed her legs around his waist.

He let her hands go and she pushed him off her onto the bed then she straddled him. Unable to go on teasing him, she slid down over his hardness and sighed.

“I truly have missed you.” She said as she kissed him.

Grabbing her hips in his hands, he moved her up and down on his manhood in awe of how good she felt. Every time with her, he was amazed at how much better it felt with the woman he loved than it had with all of the other women before. She made him feel like they were made for each other as if she was a missing piece of him. Watching her now sitting on top of him, he could not imagine a more beautiful sight. Letting her take control, he slid his hands up her body leaving goose bumps behind. Her movements became more hurried as she was closer to her climax. He loved watching her in the throes of passion. It made it so much sweeter for him. When she arched her back, he moved his hands back to her hips and began to move her forcefully on his hardness until she moaned and cried out his name. As soon as she settled down, he rolled them over so he was on top of her. Moving into her quickly and more forcefully, he kissed her on her neck as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She began to suck on his earlobe and he moaned. She started kissing him on his throat as she moved up to meet his thrusts. Finally, he could take no more and thrusting into her hard, he exploded deep inside her.

She wrapped her legs around his hips and whispered “Can we just not stay here like this forever? Forget about Gondor and all else and just stay here.”

“I wish we could, my love.” He said sadly as he stroked her hair away from her face.

He knew how hard it had been for her lately. He knew she worried about him but she had reason to worry. Every day he felt lucky to be alive. Every battle had come to be barely won. Victories were at such high costs it hardly seemed like victories anymore. Only with her did he feel completely happy and he was away from her more and more lately. Rolling off her, he stared at the ceiling for a minute before pulling her to him.

“Lillianna, if anything happens to me, I want Faramir to take you to Rohan. Theodred and his cousin Éomer will take care of you and you will be safer there than here in Gondor.” He said softly.

Sitting up, she looked at him but he wouldn’t look her in the eyes.

“Do not talk like that. Do not talk about not coming home to me. Each time you leave it is getting harder. I see you leave here with twice as many men as you return with. I know how tough things have been.” She said as tears rolled down her face. “Go with me now.”

“Go where?”

“To Rohan. You do not need to be the savior of Gondor. Let your father save this land. Go with me to Rohan and we can forget about all of this. We can take Faramir with us and both of you can rest from the daily battles.”

He stroked her hair and looked at her sweet face. Calmly he said, “You know I cannot leave. I cannot leave Gondor to fall to the forces of Mordor. This land is my home. I am sworn to protect it.”

“Are you not sworn to protect me as well?”

“Of course.”

”Then take me from here. Take me from this place before we all end up dead.”

“You are safe here in Minas Tirith.”

“I am not safe from losing you. That is worse than death to me.” She had begun to cry more and he sat up and held her.

Cradling her face he said “Please, let’s not fight. I missed you. I need to hold you and take comfort in your love. I do not want to talk about death anymore. Not tonight, not with you.”

Knowing there was nothing to come of this discussion but a fight, she let the matter drop. He made love to her until the early hours of the morning before they both fell into an exhausted sleep.

Three days later, Boromir had a dream and woke up sweating. He told her it was a dream about the One Ring, Isildur’s Bane, and it had been found. He was comforted by the dream but she was not. She lay awake worrying what this meant.

The next day, Faramir’s men came to the city looking for Boromir. The city had been overrun and Faramir’s men could no longer hold it. Kissing her hard, he left with his men. She was terrified because it seemed so bad this time. The battles raged for days as they tried to get citizens out of the city but were unable to do so without putting their lives further at risk. She had gone to the House of Healing because she had been sick in the mornings for the last month and Boromir was concerned. She left there shocked after she was told that she was finally with child. She wished Boromir were here to share the good news with.

The next day, a soldier came to her door and she started crying when she saw him fearing that she had lost him.

He was quite confused by her tears as he said “My lady, Lord Boromir has sent me to bring you to Osgiliath. They have reclaimed the city and he wishes for you to come there.”

She laughed and much to his dismay hugged the man. She told him she would meet him in the stables within an hour. Running into the bedroom, she quickly got dressed in one of Boromir’s favorite gowns and let her hair down, as he liked it best. Feeling confident that she looked her best, she rushed to the stables. They rode with others to the city. As she was looking for him, she found Faramir. She hugged and kissed him.

“I am so glad you are not harmed. I was worried about you.”

“I was worried about me as well.” He joked. “You, however, are like a breath of fresh air. You remind me what we are fighting so hard to protect.”

“Oh, your words of flattery should be used on a single woman you can marry not your own sister in law.” She laughed.

“Lillianna, you do look radiantly happy today, more so than usual. Is there something you are happy about other than Boromir’s victory?”

“I cannot tell. I have not told anyone yet and I want to tell Boromir first.” She smiled

He smiled really big and hugged her tight.

“Your not telling me has allowed me to figure out on my own. I am so happy for you. Now go tell Boromir quickly. If not, I might tell him myself.”

Letting her go, he pointed out where he had seen Boromir last.

When she came upon him, he was talking with his men. As soon as he saw her, he excused himself. She had walked into a storeroom and he followed her. Grabbing her and lifting her off of her feet, he kissed her.

“I am so happy you are not hurt. I was more worried about you than normal this time.” She said.

“I had to come home to my princess.” He smiled.

“I have something good news to tell you.” She said softly.

“What is it?” he said kissing her quickly.

“Lord Boromir. Lord Boromir.” She heard a soldier calling him and he groaned.

“Tell me in just a minute, my sweet.” Kissing her quickly, he went out to talk to the soldier.
